Artist Bio

Alberto Lezaca’s work questions the notions of materiality, reality, simulacrum and representation. His practice explores the intersections between virtuality and physical matter, using media such as painting, video, computer generated images, sculpture and installation.

Alberto Lezaca’s painting of recent years has been dedicated to representing sculptures and/or installations which, without having been carried out, we recognize as his authorship. In turn, his sculptures and installations, without ever having been painted, are familiar to us through his painting. His practice is a continuous process of projection in the architectural sense, it uses representation to imagine what may be. This constant oscillation between one medium and another and the continuous exercise of imagining one another, result in the interpenetration of both media in his recent work.

He has exhibited recently, among others, in: De mí, el mundo, ARTBO Chapinero, Bogotá 2018; Back Catalogue (solo), (bis) | oficina de proyectos, Cali 2018; #iff2018, Instituto Figueiredo Ferraz, Ribeirão Preto 2018; Video SUR, Palais de Tokyo, Paris 2018; Frequency Room (solo), Arróniz Arte Contemporáneo, Mexico City 2017; Aquél que camina delante, Travesía Cuatro, Guadalajara 2016; Abajo y las excepciones (solo), La Casita – Colección Chehebar, Bogotá 2016; Um olhar para o humano a partir da natureza refletiva e da arquitetura, Galeria Eduardo Fernandes, São Paulo 2016; Corpus I, Obra, Malmö 2016; Mercurio frente al sol, Instituto de Visión, Bogotá 2016; Vibraciones improbables (solo), (bis) | oficina de proyectos, Cali 2016; Hacia una nueva orilla, NC-Arte, Bogotá 2016.

His work can be found in public collections such as Banco de la República (Bogotá, Colombia), Museo de Arte Moderno de Medellín – MAMM (Medellín, Colombia) and Instituto Figueiredo Ferraz (Ribeirão Preto, Brazil).
